19 Pul+ the king of As·syrʹi·a+ came into the land. Consequently Menʹa·hem gave+ Pul a thousand talents of silver,+ that his hands might prove to be with him to strengthen the kingdom in his own hand.+
7 So Aʹhaz sent messengers to Tigʹlath-pil·eʹser+ the king of As·syrʹi·a, saying: “I am your servant+ and your son. Come up and save+ me out of the palm of the king of Syria and out of the palm of the king of Israel, who are rising up against me.”
18 And now what concern should you have for the way of Egypt+ in order to drink the waters of Shiʹhor?*+ And what concern should you have for the way of As·syrʹi·a+ in order to drink the waters of the River?*
36 Why do you treat as very insignificant the changing of your way?+ Of Egypt, too, you will become ashamed,+ just as you became ashamed of As·syrʹi·a.+
28 “‘And you went on to prostitute yourself to the sons of As·syrʹi·a because there was no satisfying of you,+ and you kept prostituting yourself with them and also did not get satisfaction.
13 “And Eʹphra·im got to see his sickness, and Judah his ulcer.+ And Eʹphra·im proceeded to go to As·syrʹi·a+ and send to a great king.*+ But that one himself was unable to give healing to YOU people,+ and he could not take from YOU an ulcer with any cure.+
