6 King Re·ho·boʹam then consulted with the older men* who had served his father Solʹo·mon while he was alive, saying: “What advice would you give on how to reply to this people?”
8 However, he rejected the advice that the older men* gave him, and he consulted with the young men who had grown up with him and who were now his attendants.+
12Soon after the kingship of Re·ho·boʹam was firmly established+ and he had become strong, he abandoned the Law of Jehovah,+ and also all Israel with him.
9 So King Shiʹshak of Egypt came up against Jerusalem. He took the treasures of the house of Jehovah+ and the treasures of the king’s house.* He took everything, including the gold shields that Solʹo·mon had made.+
