17 Your hand should take nothing that was set apart for destruction,*+ so that Jehovah may turn away from his burning anger and show you mercy and compassion and multiply you, just as he has sworn to your forefathers.+

18 But keep away from what is devoted to destruction,+ so that you do not desire something devoted to destruction and take it,+ making the camp of Israel something devoted to destruction by bringing disaster* on it.+
