14 “‘However, if you will not listen to me or keep all these commandments,+

17 I will set my face against you, and you will be defeated by your enemies;+ and those who hate you will tread on you,+ and you will flee when no one is pursuing you.+

8 Pardon me, O Jehovah, what can I say now that Israel has retreated* before his enemies?

11 Israel has sinned. They have violated my covenant+ that I commanded them to keep. They took some of what was devoted to destruction,+ stealing+ it and secretly putting it among their own possessions.+

6 In the ninth year of Ho·sheʹa, the king of As·syrʹi·a captured Sa·marʹi·a.+ He then led the people of Israel into exile+ in As·syrʹi·a and made them dwell in Haʹlah and in Haʹbor at the river Goʹzan+ and in the cities of the Medes.+

7 This happened because the people of Israel had sinned against Jehovah their God, who brought them up out of the land of Egypt from under the control of Pharʹaoh king of Egypt.+ They worshipped* other gods,+
