2 If a man makes a vow+ to Jehovah or swears an oath+ to impose on himself* a vow of abstinence, he must not violate his word.+ He should do everything he vowed he would do.+
24 But the men of Israel were hard-pressed on that day, for Saul had put the people under this oath: “Cursed is the man who eats any food* before the evening and until I have taken vengeance on my enemies!” So none of the people ate any food.+
