3 A voice of one calling out in the wilderness:

“Clear up* the way of Jehovah!+

Make a straight highway+ through the desert for our God.+

5 “Look! I am sending to you E·liʹjah the prophet+ before the coming of the great and awe-inspiring day of Jehovah.+ 6 And he will turn the hearts of fathers back toward sons,+ and the hearts of sons back toward fathers, so that I may not come and strike the earth, devoting it to destruction.”

13 For all, the Prophets and the Law, prophesied until John;+ 14 and if you are willing to accept it, he is ‘E·liʹjah who is to come.’+

12 He said to them: “E·liʹjah does come first and restore all things;+ but how is it that it is written about the Son of man that he must undergo many sufferings+ and be treated with contempt?+

17 Also, he will go ahead of him with E·liʹjah’s spirit and power,+ to turn back the hearts of fathers to children+ and the disobedient ones to the practical wisdom of righteous ones, in order to get ready for Jehovah a prepared people.”+
