(Ma·halʹa·lel) [possibly, Praise of God].
1. A descendant of Seth through Enosh and Kenan; hence Seth’s great-grandson. Mahalalel lived 895 years. (Ge 5:6-17; 1Ch 1:1, 2) In Luke’s genealogy of Jesus, he is referred to by the name Mahalaleel.—Lu 3:37, 38.
2. A descendant of Judah through Perez and the ancestor of Athaiah, a resident of Jerusalem after the return from Babylonian exile.—Ne 11:4.
