The historian Josephus (first century C.E.) indicated that the canon of the Hebrew Scriptures had been fixed long before his day.⁸ In addition, the Greek Septuagint, a translation of the Hebrew Scriptures into Greek, was begun in the third century B.C.E. and was completed by the second century B.C.E.
