    • Moses saw thousands of Israelites die in the wilderness, ‘swept away’ by God as in a flood. This portion of the psalm has been rendered: “You sweep men away in the sleep of death.” (New International Version) On the other hand, the life span of imperfect humans is “a mere sleep” of short duration​—comparable to just one night’s slumber.
