¹⁴ One outstanding feature that is bound to stir up great controversy among modern translators and religious leaders of Christendom is the use of God’s own given name in this English rendering of the Christian Greek Scriptures.

The divine name is represented by a four-lettered Hebrew word, called a “tet·ra·gramʹma·ton” by the Latin translator Jer·omeʹ.

Declaration Concerning the Divine Name

In the Hebrew portion of the Scriptures that name is clearly spelled out for us in four Hebrew letters, called the tetragrammaton.

The previously mentioned article in the Washington Evening Star said in this regard that the divine name “was spelled in Hebrew letters which are equivalent to YHWH.”

This superstitious fear, which prevented the Jews from pronouncing the Divine Name, has also had an influence upon Christendom.

Another striking fact is the absence of the divine name, not only in the extant Greek manuscripts of the Christian Greek Scriptures, but also in the many ancient and modern Bible translations.

The theological doctor quotes part of the above and leaves his reader to imagine that the translators of the New World Translation of the Christian Greek Scriptures were arbitrary, or self-determining, in their rendering of the Greek word kyʹrios (without the Greek definite article) by the divine name, Jehovah.

However, in your reading of the “New Testament” or Christian Greek Scriptures you may never have come across God’s name.

One reason is that so far no ancient manuscript copies of the original text of the Christian Greek Scriptures have been found containing the divine name in its full form.
