14 Jehovah now said to Moses: “Write this as a memorial* in the book and repeat it to Joshua, ‘I will completely wipe out the memory of Amʹa·lek from under the heavens.’”+

47 Saul secured the kingship over Israel and fought against all his enemies on every side, against the Moʹab·ites,+ the Amʹmon·ites,+ the Eʹdom·ites,+ the kings of Zoʹbah,+ and the Phi·lisʹtines;+ and wherever he went he defeated them. 48 And he fought bravely and conquered the A·malʹek·ites+ and rescued Israel from the hand of their plunderers.

15 Then Samuel said to Saul: “Jehovah sent me to anoint you as king over his people Israel;+ now listen to what Jehovah has to say.+ 2 This is what Jehovah of armies says: ‘I will call to account the A·malʹek·ites for what they did to Israel when they opposed them along their way coming up from Egypt.+ 3 Now go, and strike down the A·malʹek·ites,+ and devote them to destruction+ along with all that they have. You must not spare* them; you are to put them to death,+ man as well as woman, child as well as infant, bull as well as sheep, camel as well as donkey.’”+

42 Some of the Simʹe·on·ites, 500 men, went to Mount Seʹir+ with Pel·a·tiʹah, Ne·a·riʹah, Re·phaʹiah, and Uzʹzi·el, the sons of Ishʹi who led them. 43 And they struck down the rest of the A·malʹek·ites+ who had escaped, and they have lived there down to this day.
