7 I will cut Israel off from the surface of the land that I have given to them,+ and the house that I have sanctified for my name I will cast out of my sight,+ and Israel will become an object of scorn* and a cause for ridicule among all the peoples.+

36 So here we are today, slaves+—yes, slaves in the land that you gave to our forefathers to eat its fruitage and its good things. 37 Its abundant produce is for the kings whom you have put over us because of our sins.+ They rule over our bodies and over our livestock as they see fit, and we are in great distress.
