OCTOBER 5-11

JEREMIAH 40-41

Song 33 and Prayer | Opening Comments (1 min.)

TREASURES FROM GOD’S WORD

1. Gaining a Proper Perspective of Jehovah’s Protection

(10 min.)

Jehovah preserved Jeremiah’s life (Jer 40:2-4; jr 189 ¶16)

Jehovah did not preserve Gedaliah’s life, although he was a God-fearing man (Jer 41:1, 2; it “Gedaliah” No. 4)

Jehovah does not always miraculously deliver us from trials, sickness, or death (cl 72-73 ¶13-14)

FOR MEDITATION: How does Jehovah protect us as individuals today?—Pr 4:5, 6; 1Th 5:14.

A young couple visiting an elderly brother in the hospital, along with his wife. The younger brother helps the elderly brother walk while the younger sister gives a basket of food to his wife.

Jehovah uses the congregation as a means to protect us during a trial

8. Jehovah Is the Protector of Widows

(15 min.) Discussion.

King David referred to Jehovah as “a protector of widows.” (Ps 68:5) The Bible provides many examples that show how he cares for them.

  • Using research tools available in your language, find one or two accounts involving widows in the Bible. What do these narratives teach you about how Jehovah views and cares for widows?

If you are a widow, be assured that Jehovah understands your deepest feelings and needs. He will protect and support you, just as he has done for many in the past and continues to do today.

Scenes from the video “Rediscovering Joy and Purpose After Losing a Spouse.” Collage: 1. Sister Wood participates in the door-to-door ministry. 2. She does personal study. 3. She enjoys cooking with two other sisters.

Play the VIDEO Rediscovering Joy and Purpose After Losing a Spouse. Then ask the audience:

  • What did you learn from this video about how Jehovah cares for widows today?

Showing honor and support to widows is an important aspect of our worship. (Jas 1:27; “Give consideration to” study note on 1Ti 5:3, nwtsty)

  • How can we show honor to widows today?
