New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures (Study Edition)
    • 1:7

to receive anything from Jehovah: The Scriptures leave no doubt that Jehovah is the Source of true wisdom and that he gives it generously to those who humbly seek it from him. (Ex 31:2, 3; 1Ki 3:7-12; 4:29, 30; Pr 2:6; Mt 7:11; Lu 11:13; Jas 1:5, 6) However, a person who doubts Jehovah’s generosity and his willingness to come to the aid of his servants cannot rightly expect to receive wisdom or guidance from him. The apostle Paul made a similar point by saying: “Whoever approaches God must believe that he is and that he becomes the rewarder of those earnestly seeking him.”—Heb 11:6 and study note; for the use of the divine name at Jas 1:7, see App. C3 introduction; Jas 1:7.
