Do not be misled: After discussing the true source and the consequences of sin, James sounds a warning, using a strong expression also found in Paul’s writings. (1Co 6:9; 15:33; Ga 6:7) He cautions fellow Christians never to conclude that God is the author of their trials or that He is somehow to blame for any sins they commit. (Jas 1:13-15) On the contrary, James reminds them that God is the Source of “every good gift and every perfect present.” (Jas 1:17) James’ warning, although sobering, is motivated by love for his fellow believers. His use of the expression my beloved brothers reveals that he has great affection for them.—See study note on Jas 1:1.
