  For if anyone obeys all the Law: James uses the Law of Moses as an example to teach Christians an important truth about “the law of the Christ.” (Ga 6:2) The phrase “all the Law” reminded readers that the Mosaic Law was not merely a collection of over 600 laws from which God’s people could pick and choose those they wanted to obey. Rather, the individual laws comprised one body of Law that governed all aspects of life. Jesus denounced the scribes and Pharisees for picking which laws to obey scrupulously while disregarding “the weightier matters of the Law.” (Mt 23:23 and study note) Clearly, Christians who showed favoritism and created class distinctions in the congregation were violating the spirit of “the royal law” that James has been discussing.—Jas 2:8.
