Inasmuch as Jesus said, in the same prophecy at Matthew 24:36, that no creature knew “that day and hour” when he would come to destroy this system of things, nobody was able to say how soon after the destruction of Jerusalem the expression “immediately after” meant. We, who live nineteen centuries later, can appreciate how that short expression bridged such a long period of time. We note that the parallel verse in Mark’s account does not use the adverb “immediately” before the preposition “after.”—Mark 13:24.
