18. What was Paul’s counsel to the Corinthian congregation on unity, and why was the counsel given?

¹⁸ The apostle Paul in writing his letter to the Corinthian congregation in the first century of our Common Era said this to them: “Now I exhort you, brothers, through the name of our Lord Jesus Christ that you should all speak in agreement, and that there should not be divisions among you, but that you may be fitly united in the same mind and in the same line of thought.

(1 Cor. 1:10-13) When Paul wrote these words the members of the congregation in Corinth were not working together in unity. Rather they were following men with the thought in mind that these men somehow deserved their allegiance at the expense of cultivating unity by all speaking in agreement and being of the same mind.
