Undoubtedly having in mind the years of rigorous training required of athletes, he wrote: “Be training yourself with godly devotion as your aim. . . . to this end we are working hard and exerting ourselves.”​—1 Timothy 4:7, 10.

As Paul said of godly devotion, “it holds promise of the life now.” (1 Timothy 4:8)
