“True worshipers will worship the Father with spirit and truth, for, indeed, . . . those worshiping him must worship with spirit and truth.”​—John 4:23, 24.

Do you think of your worship in that way?​—John 4:23, 24; 2 Pet. 2:2; Josh. 24:14.

Jesus therefore explained: “Nevertheless, the hour is coming, and it is now, when the true worshipers will worship the Father with spirit and truth, for, indeed, the Father is looking for suchlike ones to worship him.”—John 4:22, 23.

One cannot worship God properly without the correct understanding of those issues, for Jesus said: “True worshipers will worship the Father with spirit and truth.”—John 4:23.

God is a Spirit, and those worshiping him must worship with spirit and truth.”​—John 4:23, 24.

You too can experience the blessings from this superior way of worship because, as Jesus said, “the Father is looking for suchlike ones to worship him.”​—John 4:23, 24.

¹⁶ In that male-dominated Jewish society, Jesus was an unusual teacher in that he was willing to talk to women, even non-Jewish women. (John 4:7-30)

Jesus did not write her off and dismiss her with a blanket judgment because she was immoral. (See also John 4:7-30.)

Rather, the Christians practiced the united, pure worship of the one true God, in keeping with Jesus’ words to a non-Jewish woman: “The hour is coming, and it is now, when the true worshipers will worship the Father with spirit and truth.”​—John 4:23.

There is one God and one acceptable way of worshiping him, “with spirit and truth.” (John 4:23, 24)

While that temple no longer existed in the time of Jesus’ ministry, the Samaritans were still worshiping on Mount Gerizim. (John 4:20-23)

As a result many became believers. (John 4:5-42)

Perhaps you remember that the Bible account at John chapter 4 tells us about a conversation Jesus had with a woman of Samaria who believed that true worship of God involved worship at the Samaritan temple on Mt. Gerizim.

For, remember, “that is the kind of worshipper the Father wants.”​—John 4:23, JB.

The Bible informs us that “the true worshipers will worship the Father with spirit and truth.”—John 4:23.

And he will bring you into association with those who really do “worship the Father with spirit and truth.”—John 4:23; Matt. 7:7, 8.

In their form of worship the Jews were principally concerned with the outward things of time and place and manner of observance; but now Jesus was saying that genuine worship went deeper than the things which are seen, and it must be “with spirit and truth”; which means not only clean, but mature, worship.—John 4:20-24, NW.

In that way we can be assured at all times of Jehovah’s favor by keeping company and keeping step with the “genuine worshipers” who “worship the Father with spirit and truth”.—Phil. 3:14-17; John 4:23, NW.
