“You husbands, continue dwelling . . . with them according to knowledge, assigning them honor as to a weaker vessel, the feminine one.”​—1 PETER 3:7.

Some 30 years later, Peter gave wives loving counsel and then wrote: “You husbands, continue dwelling in like manner with them according to knowledge, assigning them honor as to a weaker vessel, the feminine one, since you are also heirs with them of the undeserved favor of life, in order for your prayers not to be hindered.” (1 Peter 3:7)

We must fortify our spirituality.​—1 Peter 3:1-4, 7; Colossians 2:18.

“You husbands, continue dwelling in like manner with them according to knowledge, assigning them honor as to a weaker vessel, the feminine one, since you are also heirs with them of the undeserved favor of life, in order for your prayers not to be hindered.”​—1 Peter 3:7.

It describes woman as “a weaker vessel, the feminine one,” and says that, just as man has a head (Christ), “the head of a woman is the man.”​—1 Peter 3:7; 1 Corinthians 11:3.

They are assigned honor. (1 Peter 3:7)

Likewise, a newly converted husband may in time win over his wife. (1 Peter 3:1-7)

This certainly should exclude anything that might distress or harm one’s mate.​—Ephesians 5:28-30; 1 Peter 3:1, 7.

Additionally, overwork or the effect of her monthly cycle might make sharing in marital relations an effort rather than a pleasure.​—Gen. 31:35; 1 Pet. 3:7.

He should try to keep in mind the counsel of the apostle Peter to husbands to “continue dwelling in like manner with [their wives] according to knowledge, assigning them honor as to a weaker vessel, the feminine one.” (1 Pet. 3:7)

He will be a good provider for both the family’s material and spiritual needs.​—1 Cor. 11:3; Eph. 5:22-33; 1 Pet. 3:1-7.

Do not be irritating them.​—1 Pet. 3:7; Eph. 6:4.

⁷ The apostle Peter, himself a married man, writing under inspiration of God’s holy spirit, said concerning wives: “Husbands, continue dwelling in like manner with them according to knowledge, assigning them honor as to a weaker vessel, the feminine one, since you are also heirs with them of the undeserved favor of life, in order for your prayers not to be hindered.” (1 Pet. 3:7)

As the apostle Peter states: “Assigning them honor as to a weaker vessel, the feminine one.”—1 Pet. 3:7.

Good counsel for both husbands and wives is found at Ephesians 5:21-33, 1 Timothy 2:9-15, and 1 Peter 3:1-12.

Sometimes some expression of subjection may be distasteful to a wife because of the humiliation involved, but if she nonetheless subjects herself, not to please herself and not to please just her husband, but doing it as to the Lord Jesus whose bride she pictures, then she can swallow the humiliation better and know a reasonable reason for it and it becomes a virtue to her, as 1 Peter 3 states.
