Whenever you drink it, do this as a memorial of me.” (Luke 22:19; 1 Cor. 11:23-25, The Jerusalem Bible; The New English Bible)

Also, the cup in the same way after they had the evening meal, he saying: ‘This cup means the new covenant by virtue of my blood, which is to be poured out in your behalf.’”​—Luke 22:14-20.a

Jesus commanded his disciples to commemorate his death because of its importance. (Luke 22:19; 1 Corinthians 11:23-26)

In following Jesus’ instruction to “keep doing this in remembrance of [him],” we would want to observe the Memorial just as he instituted it. (Luke 22:19; 1 Corinthians 11:24, 25)

He told the apostles: “Keep doing this in remembrance of me.” (Luke 22:19)

He thereafter outlined the Lord’s Evening Meal, which his followers were to keep as a memorial of his death. (Luke 22:19, 20)

Later, he went on to amplify the reason for taking them into the new covenant, saying: “You are the ones that have stuck with me in my trials; and I make a covenant with you, just as my Father has made a covenant with me, for a kingdom, that you may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom, and sit on thrones to judge the twelve tribes of Israel.”​—Luke 22:19, 20, 28-30.

(a) What covenants does Jesus refer to at Luke chapter 22?

It is important that Christians attend the annual celebration of the Lord’s Evening Meal, for Jesus said when instituting it: “Keep doing this in remembrance of me.” (Luke 22:19)

When extreme weather, a natural disaster, or the like, absolutely prevents a family or a portion of a congregation from meeting with the congregation, the isolated ones can meet and discuss Scriptural accounts such as found in Luke 22:7-23, 28-30 and; 1 Corinthians 11:20-31, as well as discussing the meaning of the occasion.

It began at his baptism in 29 C.E. and ended with his death at Passover time in 33 C.E. (Luke 22:7-20)

Using the emblems of unleavened bread and wine to represent the body and blood he was about to offer, Jesus had his faithful followers partake, and urged: “Keep doing this in remembrance of me.” (Luke 22:19, 20; 1 Cor. 11:23-26)

When you obediently assemble with fellow believers to commemorate the Lord’s Evening Meal, do you think seriously about the benefits that have come to you through Jesus’ sacrifice? (Luke 22:19, 20; 1 Cor. 11:23-32)

(b) What questions might we ask ourselves in connection with Jesus’ commands found at Matthew 28:19, 20; Luke 21:34-36; 22:19, 20 and John 13:34, 35?

ONCE a year on the Biblical date of Nisan 14, Passover night, Jehovah’s dedicated people gather together in all parts of the earth in harmony with Jesus’ command: “Keep doing this in remembrance of me.” (Luke 22:19; Ex. 12:2-6)

For such emergency occasions, one of the dedicated brothers (or a dedicated sister, if no brother is present) could briefly consider the Bible accounts in Matthew 26:17-30; Luke 22:7-23, 28-30; and 1 Corinthians 11:20-31.
