The system of Christendom in alliance with this world against the Kingdom is what we must flee from, but it is in the realm of Christendom that we must keep preaching.

¹² What, then, is the modern “disgusting thing that causes desolation”?

Jesus indicated a similar urgency in his great prophecy when he said: “When you catch sight of the disgusting thing that causes desolation, as spoken of through Daniel the prophet, standing in a holy place, . . . then let those in Judea begin fleeing to the mountains.

“There are seventy weeks that have been determined upon your people and upon your holy city, in order to terminate the transgression, and to finish off sin, and to make atonement for error, and to bring in righteousness for times indefinite, and to imprint a seal upon vision and prophet, and to anoint the Holy of Holies.

Behind its newly, loosely fitted “Christian” mask Christmas was and is nothing more than the ancient pagan Saturnalia.

Creature-flattering titles make men look lofty in the eyes of other men.

They take away from the fear of Jehovah God.

¹⁹ In the sixteenth chapter of Luke Jesus again emphasized the fact that not all men will be reconciled to God, not even all those who claim to be his devoted servants.

To the money-loving Pharisees who sneered at him he warned: “You are those who declare yourselves righteous before men, but God knows your hearts; because what is lofty among men is a disgusting thing in God’s sight.”

⁹ If you will but pause and think about it, this putting the opinion of imperfect fellow creatures ahead of God’s right principles is in fact idolatry.
