Jesus walks alone up a mountain. A large group of people are gathered at the base of the mountain.

LEARN FROM JESUS

“My Kingdom Is No Part of This World”

The Kingdom that Jesus described will do what no human government can—it will permanently solve all the problems we face today. How did Jesus show this by his words and actions?

What Jesus said

  • “My Kingdom is no part of this world.” (John 18:36) Jesus made it clear that his rulership does not come from a human source and is not dependent on human political systems. Rather, his rulership comes from God.

  • “Our Father in the heavens, . . . let your Kingdom come. Let your will take place, as in heaven, also on earth.” (Matthew 6:9, 10) In what is often called the Lord’s Prayer, Jesus taught his followers to look to God’s Kingdom—not human rule—as the solution to the world’s problems. This government by God will eventually replace all human governments and bring lasting peace to the earth.—Daniel 2:44.

To learn more about that Kingdom and what it will accomplish, watch the brief video What Is God’s Kingdom?

What Jesus did

  • “Jesus, knowing that they were about to come and seize him to make him king, withdrew again to the mountain all alone.” (John 6:15) Jesus refused to accept political power and stayed completely separate from the politics of his time. He never supported efforts to establish a human government, even under his own leadership.

How should Jesus’ example affect a Christian’s view of politics? To learn more, read the article “Should Religion Be Involved in Politics?”
