Christians Care for Orphans and Widows
Shown here is a Christian couple providing support to a widowed fellow believer and her son. Throughout history, widows and orphans have been the most vulnerable members of society, often being taken advantage of by others. Jehovah God has always shown a fatherly interest in such disadvantaged women and children. (De 10:18; Ps 68:5) For example, in the Mosaic Law, he commanded the Israelites to care for those who had lost a husband or a father. (De 14:28, 29; 24:19-21) In the first century C.E., Bible writer James highlighted that one of the marks identifying true Christians was their care for widows and orphans, who suffered tribulation. These expressions of love constitute an important part of the worship of “our God and Father,” Jehovah.—Jas 1:27.
