22 And the crowd rose up together against them, and the civil magistrates, after tearing the garments off them, gave the command to beat them with rods.+ 23 After they had inflicted many blows on them, they threw them into prison+ and ordered the jailer to guard them securely.+

2 For although we had first suffered and been insolently treated in Phi·lipʹpi,+ as you know, we mustered up boldness by means of our God to tell you the good news of God+ in the face of much opposition.
