Hort, Fenton John Anthony

(1828-1892) A Bible scholar and theologian who was born in Dublin, Ireland, and educated at Cambridge University, England. Hort later became a professor at Cambridge, an office he held until his death. He also served as an ordained minister of the Church of England.

Hort and fellow collaborator, B. F. Westcott, prepared a scholarly edition of the Greek text of the Christian Greek Scriptures entitled The New Testament in the Original Greek, first published in 1881. This work was one of the scholarly editions of the Greek text consulted during the preparation of the original New World Translation and the 2013 revision.
