22 Once while Israel was dwelling in that land, Reuʹben went and lay down with Bilʹhah his father’s concubine, and Israel heard about it.+

So there were 12 sons of Jacob.

4 With recklessness like turbulent waters, you will not excel, because you have gone up to your father’s bed.+ At that time you defiled* my bed. He actually went on to it!

11 A man who lies down with his father’s wife has exposed his father to shame.*+ Both of them should be put to death without fail. Their own blood is upon them.

20 “‘Cursed is the one who lies down with his father’s wife, for he has dishonored his father.’*+ (And all the people will say, ‘Amen!’)

21 At that A·hithʹo·phel said to Abʹsa·lom: “Have relations with your father’s concubines,+ those whom he left behind to take care of the house.*+ Then all Israel will hear that you have made yourself a stench to your father, and those who support you will be strengthened.”

5 Actually sexual immorality+ is reported among you, and such immorality as is not even found among the nations—of a man living with* his father’s wife.+
